Software Download: Media Monkey

The “Software Download” post is dedicated to promote the free software that can be downloaded online to enhance your computer experience.

Many people today view their computer as much more than a place to check their email or update their status. To many of us our PC is also a gateway into our very own music collection that has transcribed over the years. In order to sustain a large music collection every PC must possess the correct software in the form of a media player.

There are actually quite a few media players out there in the market and I for one have tested a couple of them to find out which one works best for me. To name a few of the ones I have tested, I have both enjoyed and lamented the use of iTunes, Windows Media Player, and WinAmp. I will not mention why exactly each of these media players failed to meet my needs but instead I will provide you with information on the one that did fit my needs. As of now, my number one media player of choice would have to be Media Monkey.

Media Monkey simply does the job better than all of the previous media players that I mentioned. For one, it can play almost any form of music format that there is. Rare is the case when I download a song from a music client and I am not able to play it in this media player.

Also, the number of plug-ins available are simply too many to name. Each plug-in that you download gives you more control over how your music is presented and experienced. Whether you want new skin colors or you want new abstract illusions to go along with your music, there most certainly is a plug-in for it.

To be fair, I only use Media Monkey to keep and play music and I haven’t had the luxury of playing video on it but there should be plug-in available that will allow you to do so. Personally, my favorite feature would have to be the level of control that Media Monkey gives you. You can customize every TAG detail for every individual song.

For example, let’s say I have a song labeled as “Rock” and I have another labeled as “Rock and Roll” and I only wish to have one genre and call it “Rock.” A simple job, you simply right-click the song and click on Properties and customize any detail on the song that you want, in this case change “Rock and Roll” to simply “Rock”.

Media Monkey has been my media player of choice for years now and I don’t plan on changing it. The software is free with an optional $20 upgrade if you want to unlock even more neat features. This is truly an ideal media player for those who are tired of dealing with other media players that don’t get the job done. Media Monkey gets the job done, and done right.
